This epic short film is Directed by Sujoy Ghosh and starring the legendary Soumitra Chatterjee, Radhika Apte and Tota Roy Chowdhury, the 14 minutes short spins a web around seduction and deceit. Watch it and we assured you, It would keep you on the edge of your seat for the next 14 minutes.
It is a modern re-telling of the mythological story of Ahalya with a significant twist. Directed by Sujoy Ghosh, known for his mystery thrillers, this fourteen minute film has the same noir elements. Starring veteran Soumitra Chatterjee along with higly versatile Radhika Apte, analogous to the characters of Gautam Maharishi and Ahalya from mythology, there is Tota Roy Chowdhury playing inspector on the lines of Lord Indra. This short film garnered a lot of hoopla before its release and a lot of critical acclaim post it. Indra Sen (Chowdhury) arrives at Goutam Sadhu’s (Chatterjee) house investigating the disappearance of a model and mistakes Ahalya (Apte) as his daughter instead of wife. Goutam is an artist and his dolls are the object of constant focus, one of them being the
miniature of the missing model (Arjun) who was last seen at Sadhu’s place, posing for his doll collection. The inspector finds something fishy and proceeds to arrest Sadhu as a suspect, when he is
challenged to touch the magic stone, which supposedly transforms you into anybody you wish as claimed by Sadhu. Testing it and posing as Sadhu himself, he reaches their bedroom upstairs, where Ahalya sees her husband in him. Taking advantage of it, he leaps on to her and here the plot diverges from the mythological story. In the original story, Ahalya gets cursed by her husband Gautam for her infidelity while here Ahalya acta as a seductress in tandem with the husband with the modern version of Indra falling for the honey trap. Critics find some elements of Satyajit Ray’s story ‘Professor Shonku and the Strange Dolls’ in the film, whose other works have had an influence on Ghosh too who declared that the highly awaited sequel would be released in February 2017.
