A small post office somewhere in Kolkata has received around thirty letters in the past three years for none other than Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. Bapu, released on Independence Day in 2015 is a fitting tribute to our Father of Nation. Another masterpiece from the house of Terribly Tiny Talkies, directed by Abhishek Sengupta, it is bound to touch a chord with your heart. About seventy years ago, a spirited young boy named Kedar Chunawala ,full with vigour of nationalism and an integral organiser of various independence related samitis and sangathans in Bombay and Gujarat wrote a letter to Mahatma Gandhi (Bapu), telling him about his confusion and asking for his advice. At a young age of fifteen, he has given several years of his life to the nation’s cause and now that the country is independent, he does not know what to do. His father wants him to join his business while his heart still yearns for the nation because he sees that we Indians are still far from being ‘independent’. He is asking Gandhiji to guide him, unable to decide for himself. All of his thirty letters contain the same request for Gandhi ji and we become aware of the contents through the efforts of an earnest postman who takes it upon himself to find this ardent follower of Gandhi ji. Curious to know what they contain, he opens and reads all of them. On reaching Kedar he discovers that he this old man is probably on the verge of his end and decides to put him out of his misery. Even after seventy years, Kedar is awaiting an answer. Watch this touching little tale to discover how Bapu finally replies and communicates with Kedar with a little help from the postman.
