Video Game High School (VGHS)

VIDEO GAME HIGH SCHOOL

Welcome to the Hogwarts of Video Games, the Video Game High School (VGHS). It is a unique offering from the world of Rocket Game. The company initially started with making YouTube video series produced by Freddie Wong, who participates in two other channels having more than 7 million subscribers.
Then came in their most ambitious project ‘Video Game High School’ in 2012. Over the course of its three seasons, the web series has successfully demonstrated how a unique storyline with amazing special effects can be made on a shoestring budget as opposed to the lavish and sometimes distasteful spending of Hollywood movies.
This web series not only redefined the rules of an action series but also revolutionised the notion of distribution. The makers describe their show as "a show about best friends, first loves, and landing that perfect head shot", but that is just the tip of the iceberg which will certainly be seconded by millions of diehard fans.
The web series portrays a near future whereby video gaming has become the epitome of all games and sports and its best players are the real superstars. The protagonist of the series, BrianD earns a spot in the elite Video Game High School (VGHS), the premier high school whose curriculum comprises of video games of all genres. In the school he befriends Ki Swan and Ted Wong (played by Jimmy Wong, brother of creator Freddie Wong). He meets his his love interest Jenny Matrix, who in season 1 is shown as The Law’s (primary antagonist and world #1 amateur gamer) girlfriend.
The first season has 9 episodes with an average length of 15 minutes, while seasons 2 and 3 comprise 6 episodes each, some of them being hour long.
The advantage this web series has over others is twofold. The writing team has done a remarkable job and so have the actors, but what gives it the real edge is its design and the intriguing way it has been shot. It has seen a tremendous rise in its content quality over the episodes which becomes evident in its immense viewership ratings. The series came to an end in December 2014 with the end of Season 3.
Who would have thought that a series that started with a support of over 10,000 Kickstarter backers would soon attain a cult following. In my humble opinion it deserves a shot even from the non-gamers.

P.S.- I too belong amongst the non-gamers.
