Aam Aadmi Family web series review

Aam Aadmi Family web series has been featured on this site earlier. Here is the review for it.
The “AAM AADMI FAMILY” is essentially what the name implies – a web series, of the mango people, for the mango people and (more or less) by the mango people. With the internet flooding with web series that are pumping in rich, abusive, adult & double entendre content, this lightweight comical drama of 8-episodes, is a change well welcomed and something you can stream together with your entire family, without the slightest worry of getting embarrassed.
The story revolves around a middle-class family of five comprising, the lovable Daadi, played by everybody’s favorite Kamlesh Gill (of Vicky Donor fame), the responsible son Brijendra Kala, played by the brilliant S. K. Sharma (Pan Singh Tomar fame), the bahu-cum-dharampatni-cum-maa namely, Madhu Sharma, portrayed absolutely, awesomely, fantabulous-ly by Lubna Salim and the children, Sonu and Bobby played by cute Gunjan Malhotra and Chandan Anand respectively.
Created by the youth centric news & lifestyle platform – The Timeliners, in association with the e-Commerce giant Flipkart, the series projects ‘happy happy’ punjabi vibes right from the start and lines such as “haan bete…jab hum boode hojayenge na toh humain bhi phek dena” ensures that both middle-age parents and teenage children empathize with the characters and feel connected to the story.
Occasions that typically called for celebrations in middle-class families in the 90s are well exploited here such as arrival of a new TV, the talks of a new ‘rishta’, the visiting of your aunties and uncles when someone gets sick etc., however, I personally found the drama to be a little eye candy-ish and unoriginal. But then, the makers had already mentioned that the series are made on the lines of Dekh Bhai Dekh and Sarabhai vs. Sarabhai. Nevertheless, certain aspects were commendable such as the trying-to-be-tech savvy parents and the totally chilled-out grandma, but since the conflicts are lightweight in nature and are not carried on to subsequent episodes, the endings can always be predicted to be happy. I can already picture an episode on the purchase of a new car.
The first two episodes are relatively short though the characters gradually grow into you. Especially formidable are the mother and daughter (Lubna and Gunjan) who are very appealing to the eyes. Gunjan’s expressions (captured in slow-motion) in the second episode where she wrongly deduces that the dropped in guests are likely to put forth a marriage proposal for her, is simply awesome. The best part in the whole series is that the comedy is not caricatured. The acts are naturally subtle and kudos to Apoorv Singh Karki for directing so.
One thing that felt fretting since the beginning is the constant reference to online shopping. Okay, Flipkart is backing you, we get it. But come on guys! That doesn’t mean we are to be throbbed every 2 minutes in a 7 minutes episode, to start buying online. I suggest that Akansh Gaur (Producer) come up with other intelligent ways to instill the online shopping culture in to the viewers’ mind rather than making the actors refer to it in every third dialogue. We are here to watch your film, remember? Not an advert.
But when all is said and done, the series does refresh your mood and should bring back old nostalgic memories of the fun time you had with your family. Want my 2 cents? Do watch it. You never know when a hardcore conflict will arise, that would span across multiple episodes and that will make the series much more interesting. Till then, you should be well-versed with the characters. Thumbs Up…like 3 times!!!
